I am trying to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics system on my mothers laptop that is not working. I switch on and press esc several times. Screen appears where I can select F2 for System Diagnostics. After pressing F2 several times a screen finally appears for HP Advanced System Diagnostics. This screen does not have an option for Component tests and subsequently no Hard Drive test. Please help

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to find the component test in HP hardware diagnostics.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- What is the exact issue you are facing with the computer?
- What is the exact model for your computer?
While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

it will take a variable amount of time depending on the size and speed of Hard Drive.
You can cancel at any time by using the Escape key (esc) on your keyboard.
I select Start Hard Drive Test, within seconds another screen comes up titled:
