I am trying to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics system on my mothers laptop that is not working. I switch on and press esc several times. Screen appears where I can select F2 for System Diagnostics. After pressing F2 several times a screen finally appears for HP Advanced System Diagnostics.  This screen does not have an option for Component tests and subsequently no Hard Drive test.  Please help

@Gazza1505,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to find the component test in HP hardware diagnostics.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • What is the exact issue you are facing with the computer?
  • What is the exact model for your computer?

While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Thank you for your reply.

When I switch the laptop on all I get is a black screen.  Written on it in white is:

SMART Hard Disk Error.

The SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure.  To ensure not data loss, please backup the content immediately and run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnosics

Hard Disk 1 (301)

F2 System Diagnostics

ENTER - Continue Startup

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

I press F2 and nothing happens if I press enter eventually I get a hp window titled:

HP Advanced System Diagnostics

HP Advanced System Diagnostics - version 3.7.1.0

For more information, please visit:  www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

System Information

Start-Up Test

Run-In Test

System Tune-Up

Hard Disk Test

Memory Test

Battery Test

BIOS Management

Error Log

Language

Exit

If I select Hard Disk Test, I get another screen titled:

Hard Disk Test

the Hard Disk Test will check your machine to make sure that the Hard Disk Drive is functioning correctly.

It will check the SMART attributes and execute the short and long versions of Drive Self Test

it will take a variable amount of time depending on the size and speed of Hard Drive.

You can cancel at any time by using the Escape key (esc) on your keyboard.

I select Start Hard Drive Test, within seconds another screen comes up titled:

Hard Disk Test

Testing Drive: 1

SMART Check: Failed

FAILURE ID: 932F61-62H9ST-MFPV4K-608B03

PRODUCT ID: A3S19EA#ABU

Hard Disk 1

Hard Disk Test: FAILED

Press Escape (esc) to go back to main menu or click on the button below.

The Laptop is a HP Pavilion g series, Pavilion g6.

As you can probably tell I am not very technically adept so any help that you can give is very much appreciated.
