HP Pavilion Laptop

My HP Pavilion Laptop keeps getting stuck on the sign in screen. It says that the sign in is disabled because of failed sign in attempts or repeated shutdowns. It says to keep the device powered on for at least 2 hours and then try again.

If I wait the 2 hours it will let me sign in but I don't want to wait 2 hours every time I need to use my laptop.

What can I do??

Thank you!!

@caseyd123, Welcome to HP Support Community,

It sounds like your HP Pavilion laptop is having a security issue related to failed sign-in attempts or repeated shutdowns, which is triggering a lockout mechanism to prevent unauthorized access. While waiting for the lockout period to expire might work temporarily, it's definitely not an ideal long-term solution.

Here are a few steps you can try to address this issue:

The first thing to try is double-checking your login credentials to ensure you're entering the correct password and that Caps Lock isn't on. If you're using a Microsoft account, you can reset your password through the Microsoft password recovery page.

It’s also worth checking for Windows updates, as bugs may cause this issue, so make sure your system is up-to-date.

If you continue to experience the issue, you can try disabling the lockout feature by adjusting the account lockout settings in the Local Security Policy.

If the problem started recently, performing a system restore might help, as it will roll back to an earlier point.

Also, try performing a hardware diagnostic test for your unit. Run the fast test or extensive test(this may take few hours) to check if there re any issues with the system.HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
