Hi.
I have an issue with my HP Pavilion 15-ab160no Notebook with a factory installed Windows 10.
I just replaced a broken HDD with a SSD and recovered the system using a previously created USB-recovery media.
Clean install worked just fine but the OS is stuck with an outdated security risk named Windows 10 Home version 1511 and the Windows Update from the computers settings doesn't find any updates. I tried to update the Windows via Microsoft Update Tool but it did not work. Message was that the BIOS need to be upgraded for the Windows update but the BIOS seems to be already the latest version and no updates can be found to it.
The Notebook is running on AMD A10 Extreme Edition Radeon R8, 4C+8G, 2000 Mhz with 8GB DDR3 installed and the system should meet the requirements for the Windows 10 version 22h2 but when i tried to install the latest Windows 10 version 22h2 via freshly created USB install media the machine doesn't boot with the install media. It just keeps restarting over and over again with only a fev seconds after the HP logo appears.
I would very much appreciate any advice if someone knows what the problem might be.

Hi:
I believe that this is the latest BIOS update HP released for your notebook:
vF.54
Info: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp97001-97500/sp97106.html
Exe: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp97001-97500/sp97106.exe

...continuing.
System information tells me that the OS is Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.10586 and the BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. F.17, 9.3.2016
Any help is greatly appreciated.

This worked.
I Updated the BIOS and installed the latest Windows 10 22h2 Update without any further issues.
Thank you, Mr. Tikkanen. You are my hero!
I believe you must be the greatest guru amongst the computer wizards here in HP Support Forum! 😃

Hi again.
Now after a succesful BIOS update and with the OS updated properly, I was wondering if there are any driver updates for this notebook i should worry about like graphics and chipset drivers maybe?
I searched the HP Support forums and found some other models (close to my model) with driver update discussions. So I tried installing a graphics driver update (SP75760) and it installed without issues. I'm not sure if it was the best driver update for my product thou.
(I'm hoping to have a playable experience with Minecrafton on this laptop and with minimal video settings that seems to work at least in the beginning of the game) lol 😄
It's a bummer that i can't easily find any manufacturers updates on the internet for these older models.
A database linking computer models to their updates would be great but i guess there is none or at least i haven't stumbled across one.
Best wishes,

Hi, Elias:
Since HP has retired support for your notebook the only suggestion I can offer would be to use a 3rd party driver website to find the drivers you need for your notebook.
We are currently not allowed to post links to third party driver sites.
However, I don't see anything improper with letting you know that the DriversCollection.com website has the drivers for your PC.
I use the site all the time and the drivers are legitimate and virus free.
Just do a search for the HP Pavilion - 15z-ab100 CTO drivers and include in the search the Driverscollection website name and you will be able to find the drivers HP used to supply,
I gave you a much newer BIOS update so don't use the F.13 version on that website.
Cheers,
Paul

Just to let people with similar problems know that before installing AMD graphics drivers and catalyst control center, you need to change the BIOS-setting for Legacy support to enabled. I saw the blue screen of death too many times before i figured out the incompatibility issues with this old hardware and UEFI.
Cheers y'all! 😃
