Hi! I focused on Windows Update finally, downloaded the tool named wu170509.diagcab and run it with Admin privileges and if fixed about half the downloads, they were able to install properly (they never had before), I think this is the fix needed.

Most of the old updates went in. To finalize, I had to turn off antivirus (McAfee) and also turn off .net framework 3.5 because of Error 0x800f0922 for error Security Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3172729). I ran the WIndows Update fix tool one more time, now all greens, and it seems to be going well. I think I may solve this today. Thanks again for your help!!

Hope it all works out. Please accept as solution if you wind up getting it fixed as this is a bit of an unusual problem and we want to mark this for others to more easily find.

Thanks. The latest error was for the last two items needed to bring the laptop up to date was (0x800705b4). I used the Windows Update troubleshooter and it fixed them (apparently) so I am now trying to refresh and waiting to see if this will do the final magic. Again, thanks for staying with me. Best wishes!

It was all for naught. Tried everything. I am going to have to do a clean install of Windows 10.
