Hi!

I have an HP Pavilion DV6700 SE laptop from, I believe, 2009 (Special Edition, brown and grey).
The laptop has been barely used and is in perfect condition, with no signs of use.
I started using it now. The laptop was running Windows 8 and I noticed that the caps lock light was not working. The keyboard works fine, but I don't know when caps-lock is on or off.
Num-Lock light works.
As the latop is in perfect condition, I don´t want to disassemble it, unless there is no solution. As an hardware engineer, I can fix the LED if the LED is burnt out or not soldered properly.
I've already entered the BIOS and the caps-lock light still doesn't work. I decided to upgrade to windows 10, but unfortunately the problem persists.
Are there any common faults with the caps-lock light on these laptops?
Do I need to update the BIOS? (I have version F.51 .
Please let me know if any further information is required.

Best regards!

Dear Gaya1239,

Thank you for your reply.
Answering your questions:

Was there any recent update on the PC?

Yes. The laptop originally came with Windows Vista and was upgraded to Windows 8 a few years ago (not by me). Unfortunately, I don't remember if the caps-lock light was working at that time, as I wasn't the main user of the laptop. Now that I'm using it, I've upgraded to Windows 10 to try and resolve the issue, but no sucess. I decided to switch to Windows 7 (I read a post here that the drivers for this pc all work fine on Windows Vista and Windows 7 and that might solve the problem). But unfortunately the caps-lock light still doesn't turn on. The pc now has windows 7.

Are all the drivers on HP Support Assistant up to date?
I am not sure. As windows 7 was a fresh install from an ISO file provided by windows, the pc does not have the "HP Support Assistant" software. Can I download it to be sure? All I can say is that Windows Update has all the drivers up to date.

If not please follow the document to update the drivers: HP PCs - How to Download, Install, and Use HP Support Assistant (Windows)

The link you provided is not working: "We're sorry. We can't seem to find the page you were looking for. Try going back to Support Home or use our Diagnostic Solutions to resolve your product issues"

Here's the link to download and install the above updates: Click here

When I enter my laptop's serial number, it says it can't find it (probably because it's a 2009 laptop). When I try to run the software to find it, same result. Do you have any database to manually search for the latest BIOS firmware for this laptop?

Currently I have the BIOS firmware F.51.
Serial number: CNF8100KJB.

I just found out a BIOS update for this laptop in this website:
HP Pavilion dv6799ep Special Edition BIOS (drivers.eu)

Can you confirm that this version is the latest official version for my laptop?

If so, how can I install it?
Like I said before, currently I have the F.51

The label behind my laptop says:
Product: HP Pavilion dv6700 (dv6799ep)
S/N: CNF8100KJB
P/N: KS350EA#AB9
