Pavilion DV7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all!

A friend of mine has the laptop HP Pavillion dv7.

He bought a brand new hard drive (HDD). We put it in the laptop and the we did a format from a cd (win 10).

We did a partition and after the completition of the format the system restarted and showed th following message.

Boot Device Not Found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

Hard Disk - (3F0)

F2 System Diagnostics

We tried to install again win 10 from a usb but it still show the relevant message.

Could you please tell me whats wrong?

Thank you in advance.

I don't know why you got a 3F0 error, but you got the other error because there are no boot records on that drive, just an empty partition.

I suggest you remove ALL the partitions from the drive and allow the Windows installer to create its own partitions. You can always modify the partitions later, after Windows is up and running.

Hi and thank you for your reply. I put the hard drive in my desktop and everything works fine so I believe that it is something else that causes the problem.

Based on your test results, it sounds like this might be a BIOS problem -- and we have no way of accessing your PC to fix that from here.

If this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting your machine remotely.

If they are unable to fix your PC, then you need to explore what options you have to get it replaced under the warranty.

If your PC is NOT under warranty, the for repair estimates, you would need to contact an HP Repair or Service Center.
If you live in the U.S., here is a link to the HP Service Repair Centers:

Good Luck
