Product: HP Pavilion G6

I need to perform updates on my hp Pavilion G6 notebook that is Windows 7 Home Premium edition. How do I find my series number? Or could someone provide me with the direct link? On my startup screen, I press ESC and it gives me the serial number and a Product # that is 7 characters long a hashtag (#) and then 3 letters. None of this tells me how I can possibly update this computer for a friend who is terminally ill. I am familiar with completing the process with a flash drive, but I have no idea what to download to the flashdrive. Please help!
