HP Pavilion Laptop 14-bf1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I bought this laptop 2 years ago in the UK and I've had the same issue for ages, I've sent the laptop away once for repair and they changed the battery and cleaned the fan but the laptop continued to freeze.  I've recently done a complete windows 10 refresh but it continues to lock up / freeze which happens regularly when playing Civilisation 6 but can occur at any time. I have added 8 GB of RAM but that hasn't really helped.

Intel® Core™ i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz

Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

NVIDIA GeForce 940MX

Intel® UHD Graphics 620

Memory 16 GB Physical Memory - Total 16 GB Physical Memory - Available 11.21 GB Virtual Memory - Total 18.34 GB Virtual Memory - Available 12.94 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys Page File Space 2.38 GB

I believe it's a graphic card issue and the system is running a Intel® UHD Graphics 620 with a NVIDIA GeForce 940MX. Can anyone help, could you let me know if this a simple set up issue?

Thanks,

Desmond.

@Desmond73 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the HP Pavilion Laptop 14-bf1xx freezes.

First, let's start by performing a hard reset on the PC to release any excessive static/power that could have caused the issue.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

Second, you can check if there is Bios update available for your PC, here is the link to download.

Performing a test on the Hard drive as well as on the Memory from the Hardware diagnostics:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once for System Diagnostics.
4) Go to the Component test.
5) Run extensive Memory and Hard Drive test.

Depending on the test results, If the test passes then I would suggest you perform a complete system recovery.

Note: Recovery will wipe off everything from the computer. If you have anything important get in touch with some local stores to get your data backed up.

Hello Praven,

Thanks for the response. I've tried all the above steps recently apart from the  Bios update  as I read that doesn't apply to the Windows 10 Home Edition. I've used the HP Virtual Agent prior to posting on here as my warranty ran out quite a while ago and sending the laptop away for repair didn't help.

I'm just getting frustrated now.

In that case, you have to perform the system restore.
