So allow me to explain what happened.
Yesterday was a normal day at college for me. I packed my bag with the laptop and its charger which is about a year and four months old yet I now use it to create 2D animations and illustrations. I never had problems the day before, but when I plugged in my laptop on that day, I noticed a huge problem.
This is what my icon looks like plugged in still
My laptop isn't recharging nor is it detecting its original ac adaptor while being used. Plus, the LED light displays purely white and not orange when the laptop isn't fully charged.
It did say it displayed "plugged in, not charging" for a bit though. Then, say 2 seconds, of just being plugged in, it turns into what the above icon looks like. I tried seeing if there was any needed troubleshooting first, nothing's wrong. Checking the power was up next, it detected nothing wrong with the battery and the ac adaptor even though there is something majorly wrong. This laptop is what I my main device.
That's when I looked into the internet for solutions, especially the forums on this website. I had turned off my laptop and turned it back on. Drain the power from my laptop multiple times. Turned off the battery drivers and then reenabling them after waiting for minutes. Even to the point of removing the battery temporarily and then reassemble it back together. (Still though, I haven't yet tried the quote on quote method of:
"Device Manager => Battery => Uninstall ACPI compliant control => Turn off laptop via power button => Unplug laptop and then battery from laptop => Drain residue power by holding the power before for at least 15 seconds => Plug in battery => Plug in charger => See if there is any change in status" cause I am really stressed out)
Does anyone have a solution for this? I noticed this case of the laptop unrecognizing its own ac adaptor is rare so some methods like buying a new adaptor is out of the question since my laptop says the ac adaptor is working fine. Especially updating the BIOS is out since the update needs to detect if the ac adaptor is plugged in.

Okay update. After doing that method above, it didn't work 3 times in a row. But in result, I suspected that it might be a battery sensor (the thing that tells whether battery is full or not) issue which would explain why both adaptor and battery are fine but it says "plugged in, not charging" for a few second and then saying it doesn't detect the ac adaptor. I did binge watch downloaded movies underneath my blanket to keep myself warm the day before. Laptop heats up and sensor gets messed up thinking the battery is full while on, and then battery recharges during sleep mode or turned off. Don't know if that's the correct reason, but it's the most logical I can think of. I might bring it to a repair shop to confirm this so anyone who has this problem can somewhat rejoice that this can be fixable. If it is said problem, I'll update this post for a possible fix so you or HP might be able to troubleshoot this in the future.

@Shirakami5
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
- Did you try another charger?
- Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?
I have a few troubleshooting steps, you could perform to isolate the issue:
Let's run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests.
- The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
- To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.
AC Adapter Test:
The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.
Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.
- In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
- Click Run once.
- The AC Adapter Test begins.
- When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.
Battery Test:
Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:
- In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
- Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
- When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.
If the test passes, continue with these steps:
1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
2. Expand batteries.
3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
4. Shut down the computer.
5. Disconnect the charger.
6. Remove the battery.
7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
8. Insert the battery only.
9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
If possible, try an alternate charger.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
