@29NN, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP Pavilion laptop is flashing on and off with the message "Wait till we install updates" because it is likely in the midst of a Windows update process. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

Possible Causes & Solutions

  1. Updates Are Installing in the Background
    • If Windows is actively installing updates, this message may persist until the process is complete.
    • Solution: Keep the laptop plugged in and wait for at least 30-60 minutes. If it remains stuck, move on to the next steps.
  2. Update Process Is Stuck in a Loop
    • If the laptop keeps restarting and displaying the same message, the update may have failed or become stuck.
    • Solution:
      • Force a restart by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds.
      • Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 or Shift + F8 during startup (on some HP models, use Esc or F11).
      • In Safe Mode, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and attempt to install updates manually.
  3. Corrupt Update Files
    • Occasionally, Windows Update files can become corrupted, leading to a failed update process.
    • Solution:
      • Access Advanced Startup Options by pressing F11 repeatedly at startup.
      • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
      • If that doesn’t resolve the issue, consider using System Restore to revert to a previous working state.
  4. Power Issues or Overheating
    • If your laptop is experiencing low battery or overheating, it may shut down during updates.
    • Solution:
      • Ensure the laptop is plugged into power and has adequate ventilation.
      • If overheating is a concern, clean the vents and consider using a cooling pad.
  5. Hardware or BIOS Issues
    • In rare instances, a BIOS update or hardware failure (such as RAM or SSD/HDD issues) can cause update loops.
    • Solution:
      • Reset the BIOS by pressing F2, F10, or F12 at startup and selecting Load Default Settings.
      • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics by pressing F2 at startup.

Last Resort: Reinstall Windows

If the problem persists, you may need to reinstall Windows using a USB installation media. Let me know if you need assistance with that!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
