HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dw1000 (1W798AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everybody,

Some time ago i have been changing OS on my Pavilion x360 convertable quite actively. Now sometimes I encounter issues with booting. I get 7 long caps lock flashes and 3 short. This problem sometimes solves itself, and other times I do a power reset. Currently I don't have such problem, but in case I encounter it again(and something tells me that I will and not once) I am searching for a fix that would solve my problem. I've tried googling the issue but I didn't find any posts with my flashes, and decided to create one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Daniil

Hi @NatanoL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you're experiencing intermittent boot issues with your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dw1000, where the Caps Lock blinks 7 long and 3 short flashes (blink code 7.3). This typically indicates a BIOS or embedded controller CPU error, often related to system firmware or CMOS configuration.

1. Power Reset (if not done already)

  1. Turn off the notebook and unplug the power adapter.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power and try powering on.

2. Perform a CMOS (BIOS) Reset

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Press and hold Windows + V + Power simultaneously for 5–10 seconds.
  3. Release when the BIOS recovery screen appears (or system restarts).

If successful, you should see a message like “CMOS checksum is invalid” or be directed to BIOS recovery. Follow on-screen instructions.

3. BIOS Restore:

1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in

2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
