Example: Pavilion

When I go to turn my laptop on the power light flashes as well as F12 the wifi and caps lock. Then after a few seconds the cap locks stops and just the power button and f12 continues. It makes a bit of a clicking noise while it's doing this. The screen is just black.

I've tried unplugging everything taking the battery out and back in.

The laptop always has to be plugged in for it to switch on but once it's on and I have charge I can remove the lead and have power but it will never switch on without the lead even if I leave it plugged in.

@NadineC123 -- a "clicking" sound could indicate a problem with a failing disk-drive.

When you power-on the computer, keep tapping the ESC key, until you see a menu.

Hopefully, one choice on the menu is to run the HP Hardware Diagnostics.

It might detect some hardware problem.

Yes the disc bit just clicks and clicks while it's doing it.

sonetimes it's just the power button and f12 flashing then sometimes the caps lock joins in too.

the screen doesn't even come on. I tried pressing esc button over and over but it didn't work 😢😢😢

@NadineC123 -- a few thoughts:

1. if the computer is only a few weeks old, take it back to the store that sold it to you, and exchange it, under their return policy;

2. if the computer is less than one year old, exercise the HP Warranty to get HP to repair/replace it, at their expense;

3. take the computer to an "owner/operator" computer store, and hire them to use their technical skills to trouble-shoot & repair your computer.
