Last night my computer would not turn on and I chalked it up to being dead from school work and such, this morning I turned it on and it went through recovery mode on its own and made repairs by deleting previous updates. It was on for about an hour before I had to close it and bring it to my next class, from there it turned on for maybe 45 seconds, then turned off and the power button light and charging indicator light (when plugged in) both steadily flash on for 3(power button)/5(charging indicator light) then off. I tried removing the battery and only using the charging cable and "power draining" by holding the power for 15sec both with and without battery connection. I have a few projects that I haven't gotten around to backing up on there that I'd prefer not losing, any ideas?

Hi @w1adde,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Pavilion laptop is experiencing some hardware or software issues that are preventing it from booting properly. The flashing lights on the power button and charging indicator usually indicate an error code specific to HP laptops.
Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
- Check the power adapter: Make sure the power adapter is plugged into a working outlet and securely connected to your laptop. Try using a different power adapter if you have one available.
- Remove external devices: Disconnect all external devices (such as USB drives, printers, etc.) from your laptop and try turning it on again.
- Inspect the battery: If your laptop has a removable battery, try removing it and then powering on the laptop using only the power adapter. If it doesn't have a removable battery, skip this step.
- Memory (RAM) and hard drive: In some cases, faulty RAM or a failing hard drive can cause boot issues. If you're comfortable doing so, you can try reseating the RAM modules and the hard drive. However, if you're not familiar with hardware components, it might be best to seek assistance from a professional technician.
- BIOS reset: Try resetting the BIOS settings to default. To do this, you'll typically need to press a specific key (like F10 or F2) during the boot process to access the BIOS setup utility. Look for an option to reset the BIOS settings to default or remove the CMOS battery temporarily to reset the BIOS.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
