Hi,
I went to the HP sitem (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/windows10/support.html) to see if my computer is compatible with the Windows 10 Upgrade (I got an authentication error the last time I tried). But the site no longer has a field to type in the model number of the computer to check for compatibility. Please hurry! I am running out of time.
Thanks,
Tom

You're very welcome, Tom.
That happened to me on one of the PC's I upgraded to W10.
It would not activate.
I rolled back to W7, re-upgraded to W10 and it activated successfully the 2nd time.
I can't imagine why that happened.
I assumed that if W7 was activated, then everything would be fine.
If you find that you cannot upgrade to W10, or the activation fails again, please read the info at the link below for how to go back to W8.1.

Hi:
When I enter the product number for your PC after clicking on the Upgrade Icon on the link you posted, I get this message...
So what that means is HP does not support your notebook with drivers and software to work on W10.
That doesn't mean it can't. It just means there is a possibility that some of the hardware won't work.
I looked at the specs for your notebook, and it appears that it should work on W10.
I have much older HP business notebooks than the 4540s and they work on W10.
I do not use any of the security software such as the fingerprint reader, so I can't say if that will work on yours or not, and mine don't have webcams.
There are some W7/W8.1 drivers you may have to install such as the JMicron Card reader driver to get the card reader to work.
You can always give it a shot and if it doesn't work, roll back to W7 within 30 days of the upgrade.
If you need help finding a driver or so, let me know and I will see what I can do.

Thanks for the speedy reply. When I upgraded to Win 10 it said it would not autheticate. I installed a new mobo on this computer, but the Win 8.1 is authenticated and all the updates have been loaded. There is not Windows product key with this computer (ProBook 4540s).
How do you roll back to 8.1 if 10 does not work out?
Thanks again,
Tom

That is very odd, Tom.
Perhaps you should contact Microsoft and see what recommendations they have to say about it.
On W8.1 the installation is activated, so I don't understand why it doesn't get activated on W10.
