Hi, I got the CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIES error after restarting my HP Pavilion dv7 6b50ea laptop. I followed some of Windows 10 (64bit) options such as uninstalling latest updates and diagnosing the issue, but nothing worked. Then I tried to reset the PC without losing files, but Windows said that it could not do it. I have tried the system restore option, but when it finished I got the CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error again. Then I opened the HP Recovery Manager and I tired to create a backup before reseting the PC from there. Once the backup has run (around 30GB), I selected the option to save it on my external hard drive (1TB), which was empty, but I got a The destination drive is not connected message at 17% progress (please see the attached image). I restarted the laptop and tried again, but it did not work either. Then I followed some of the instructions from this community, such as checking the hard drive through BIOS, which passed the test. Next I changed the BIOS settings to default, which did not help. Finally, I tried to save the backup on a 64GB flash drive, but I got the same message during the process. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT I CAN TRY TO DO TO SAVE THE BACKUP ON AN EXTERNAL DRIVE? I would be grateful if someone could help me with this.

That laptop is a good 7 years old now. That hard drive has most likely seen its last days, even though the diagnostics shows it passes.
If the HP File Backup fails, don't use it.
You can access an external drive when connected, right? If so, can you simply drag and drop your data folders (Documents folder, Photos folder, etc) over to the external drive? I would try it before the drive possibly fails completely.
You can try clean installing Windows 10 to the old drive via an 8GB USB stick and the Create media Windows 10 tool.
But I would can that drive and use a new one. A Sata SSD would increase that old systems speed more than anything.
