Hey thanks for that tip! I'll definitely look into it, but for right now I'm very hesitant to stop the installation process even if it is taking forever. I'm afraid that would probably screw things up even worse than before. I'm not that well versed in using command prompts in the DOS screen anyway, so I'd really have to do some homework to make sure I was doing it right.

Thanks again - good resources in case the current process fails. I'm determined to get this old (2012) machine running again, just for the simple fact that i can't let anything that's not working right, get the better of me. My wife says I'm obsessed - oh well...

Best OS for a 2012 machine might be a lite linux like Lubuntu 32 or 64 bit versions.
