About a week ago I updated to Win n10 May 2004. I started getting error messages YouCam 9 file could not be found. I searched and found an update hopefully to fix the problem. Downloaded it, attempted to install and computer - HP Pavilion Gaming Notebook - 15-ak032tx crashed and rebooted into HP Recovery mode. Backed up files and started the arduous recovery program. Back to factory setting. On the first boot I got the YouCam 9 error message which I thought was curious as the system was supposedly reset back to restore factory settings. If so why the YouCam 9 error can't file file message.
Installed Bing, Chrome, FireFox and MediaCreation tool so I could directly update to the May 2004 Feature update. Started MediaCreation Tool, used Update now and laptop started downloading the software this morning. During or after installing computer crashed again and rebooted to HP Recovery. Now I get the error message "Can't open file: x:\sources\recovery\Tools\HP\Rita-tool\".
Nothing in HP Recovery/Troubleshoot/Advanced Opions is working: StartUp Repair "could not repair your PC"; Quality Updates "won't be able to un-install quality update; Feature Update "same as Quality Update, not able to uninstall update"; UEFI Firmware Setting loops me back to Advanced Options menu; System Restore reboots and takes me to HP Recovery. At at this point HP Recovery is not helping at all.
Found Rita-tool fix - For notebook computers, download HP Recovery Manager Update SP 74123 - but no way to install until laptop is running Windows again.
Can't get to recovery drive on laptop.
What to do??????
One idea I have is to take the laptop to repair shop and have the main drive removed, use it as a slave and copy the Recovery Directory to USB 32GB stick.

Welcome to HP Community
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
If you have another computer you can use that to download the Recovery Media onto a Flash drive
I suggest you run a System Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality first
- Shut down the Notebook completely
- Turn it back on, then tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup menu screen is displayed.
- Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
- Click System Test
If all the Tests pass, try a System Recovery using the Recovery Media.
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file inorder to install Windows operating system. Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06162205 to Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)
Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04758961#AbT3 to perform a System Recovery (Windows 10)

Ended up taking the laptop to PC Express for service. First they opened it up and removed the hard drive for to see what was on it. Unfortunately when I ran the 1st recovery and made a backup of files etc all the files were wiped during the recovery so there was nothing on the hard drive useful to me. The backup did not make copies of all the personal files on the hard drive. So my advice is don't trusted backup from hp recovery backup process.
So the hard drive was reinstall and the service center formatted and installed Win 10 1909. So going through reinstalling software and windows updating.
The d: drive with HP Recovery is gone with the reformatting of the hardrive. Couldn't see a copy of the hard drive when I was checking it for files. HP cloud recovery is not available for this laptop. On the HP software and support page for this laptop was a recovery upgrade file SP74707-HP Recovery Manager Update.exe that I have donwloaded but don't know wither if is useful to me as the recovery drive d: is gone.
Cost at PD Express here in Manila wasn't so bad. P500 peso ($10) service charge and the cost of a enclosure for the 2.5" hardrive P500 ($10).
So it is back working but would like to get the recovery on a USB stick.
