I have a HP Spectre x360 ch010tx with Windows 10 Pro. I'm still on 1803. I've applied the Bios update F.25 Rev.A that's available from https://support.hp.com/my-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-15-ch000-x360-convertible-pc/16779588/mo...

The bios update succeeded, and Windows 10 runs normally with 1803.

When attempting to use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to update the laptop (performing an upgrade, not creating a bootable USB). The update process appears to be working, then it reverts back to 1803. After logging back into windows. I'm presented with an error dialog from the updater.

We couldn't install Windows 10

we've set your PC back to the way it was before you started installing Windows 10

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during INSTALL_UPDATES operation

I'm about to try upgrading from the usb media this time.

I think this is another error. Developer Mode on/installed?

I did a search on your error code that you're getting and found a couple of youtube videos that you may be interested in. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVlDpC_6NBg.  It looks to be a simple fix.  Good luck.

Is it just me or is there anyone else who is having a wired display issue after the upgrade? I upgraded the BIOS and then my windows home 1803 to pro 1809. After that the screen started to show a white shadow above the window whenever the window contains a white area. I cast the screen to another monitor using HDMI cable and the monitor was displaying normally. Did a screenshot and viewed it on my phone, everything was normal as well.

Already have the latest graphic driver from HP installed. Did a clean re-installation as well but nothing changed. It's driving me crazy now...

Thank you so, so much for the solution.

I have encountered this problem as well. But as bold as I am, I erased the whole disk including the recovery partition to install the OS. End up unable to find a older version before1809, and the computer as expected, does not boot and stuck. I tried every single way to install new BIOS or the wondowi manually. What I am trying to ask is , how to install BIOS without windows install.?

🙂
had similar problem --- HP sent me my device back from repair with an added bonus "windows factory reset".

Whatever they did in "factory reset" ... it was in a unusable bootloop.

After a disk wipe and vanillar reinstall using windows media creation tool USB stick on 1809 it stayed unusable due to BIOS version...

This explains the procedure to update the BIOS if you got another windows computer to create an USB stick.

Helped me to get at least get a stable Windows prompt: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629

Good luck!
