Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Forum,

I have a brand new Spectre (detachable tablet/keyboard) and the heat level is very high.  When it's charging, it's so hot thst it's uncomfortable to hold.  I have adjusted power and battery settings - this helps on battery mode, so far.  I use Chrome mostly, and do not have many other apps loaded or open. Any other suggestions before I return it out of frustration? Thanks!

I see that your experiencing system overheating issue with HP Spectre X2 Tablet
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Does your computer shut down when ac adapter unplugged?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Let's try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, please update the system bios: Updating the BIOS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for your detailed response, @EchoLake.

Regarding your question,

  • Does your computer shut down when ac adapter unplugged?

No, it has not shut down so far - but I have only had it for a week.

I have tried several times to get to the BIOS setup menu, but maybe I'm not fast enough.  Should I be clicking on Fn-F10 multiple times or holding down the keys?  And if the computer is brand new with no changes made, would it be necessary to restore the BIOS already?  THat doesn't make sense to me.

I'll keep trying to reach the BIOS setup menu as well as the updates.  Thanks again.

Follow-up:  I have installed a BIOS update, so I'll give it a few days to see if that helps with the overheating in some way.
