As usual, my Hp laptop has stopped recognizing the charger. This would almost be comical at this point, if it wasn't so frustrating.  I've to "fix" this problem about every 6 months since I've owned this laptop. The laptop doesn't charge when it's turned on and will not show any indication that it even "sees" it when the charger is plugged in. At least it does still charge when the laptop is off.

I have tried the other troubleshooting tests by running diagnostics and uninstalling/reinstalling the ac adapter and apci battery control in device manager. I do have a 2nd ac adapter and get the same results with it.

In the past I've just updated the BIOS several times and the laptop finally starts charging. Sometimes 1 BIOS install is enough, other times I've had to install the same BIOS file multiple times before it starts "seeing" the charger. I am currently on BIOS version F.42. The online support (drivers and software page) shows a new bios update available (f.43 Rev A). F.43 doesn't work. The installer has "update" grayed out. In the other threads about the same problem with F.43 not installing, HP support has quit responding.

So...if anyone has any ideas other than buying a new laptop (getting close to that point and it won't be hp), I'd love to hear them. Also, if anyone has the filename or a download link to the F.42 BIOS so I can try reloading it again, that would be great. The only BIOS file I can find on my laptop is f.41even though I am on F.42.

Just a quick update. Right after posting I decided to try downgrading back to BIOS version F.41 since that was the only file I had and my battery was rapidly approaching 50%. Not too surprising that was able to get the laptop to start charging again. This is DEFINITELY not the fix for it though. There is something seriously wrong with having to reload/reinstall/update the BIOS just to get the ac adapter to work. I know I never had to update BIOS on any other laptops at the frequency I've had to on this hp model. Sure would be great if they'd actually FIX it with one of these updates.

As a side note, I really like this laptop and it should have plenty of life left in it. With this ongoing problem though, I'll be looking for it's replacement much sooner than I should need to. Thanks to this continuous problem with no help from hp and the fact that hp refuses to acknowledge their ac adapter problems, the next one will not be an hp product.
