HP Stream 13

I have an HP Stream that I was clearing & reinstalling windows 10 on for a friends granddaughter & it was going fine until windows update asked for an external hard drive to continue. I had no idea until this that windows 10 is now double the size it was & the storage in this stream is 32gb. I told her I could install an older os on it so it would take less room & she chose XP, but after setting the bios to USB boot (which is how I reinstalled windows 10), it does absolutely nothing & windows 10 boots as normal.

My question is how do  either colpletely vipe the storage to start again, or how to I install windows xp over windows 10. I have installed older versions of windows over newer one before, pre windows 10, so I can only guess windows 10 is stopping this.

Hi:

There would be no way to install XP on that platform.

There is no eMMC storage controller driver support for XP or W7.

What I suggest you do is to use the media creation tool to create a bootable W10 USB installer.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Boot from the installer, and when you get to the part of the installation that asks, 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space.

Click Next, and W10 will install.

After the installation has completed, you should have around 10 GB of free space left.

I know that isn't much but it is better than nothing.

I use the free Wise disk cleaner on my HP stream notebook to keep junk files down to a minumum.
