HP Stream Laptop
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Stream Laptop which is only a year old, is left on a blank screen. The power light is on, the caps lock button is flashing. I have tried the BIOS recovery method and it didn't work, maybe I did something wrong. How can I fix it without diving deep into the computer and having to fix, change, or replace parts?

Hi @UsingStream,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Stream Laptop is displaying a blank screen with the power light on and the caps lock button flashing, it could indicate a hardware or software issue. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue without delving into hardware replacement.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (without the battery) and turn on the laptop.

External Display Test:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an appropriate cable.
  • If the external monitor displays the content from your laptop, it may indicate a potential issue with the laptop's built-in display.

Check for Loose Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables, including power and external devices, are securely connected to the laptop.

BIOS Recovery (Retry):

  • Repeat the BIOS recovery process, making sure to follow the instructions provided by HP carefully.

System Restore:

  • If your laptop was working fine before, try restoring the system to a previous point using System Restore:
    • Boot into Safe Mode (if possible).
    • Open the Start menu, type "Create a restore point," and select the corresponding result.
    • In the System Properties window, click on the "System Restore" button and follow the on-screen instructions.

Reinstall Operating System:

  • If other methods fail, you may need to consider reinstalling the operating system. You can do this using the recovery options provided by HP or using a bootable USB drive with the operating system installation files.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
