Hi @Tia97,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Stream laptop. When the screen goes black with white writing and the laptop won't charge or turn on, it could be due to a few different reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Perform a hard reset: Disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery (if it's removable), and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. Then reinsert the battery (if applicable), connect the power adapter, and try turning on the laptop.
  • Check the power adapter and cable: Ensure that the power adapter is properly plugged into the laptop and the electrical outlet. Try using a different power cable or adapter if available, as the issue could be related to a faulty power connection.
  • Test the electrical outlet: Plug another device into the same outlet to verify that it's functioning correctly. If the outlet isn't providing power, try a different outlet.
  • Check the battery: If your laptop has a removable battery, make sure it's properly inserted. If possible, try removing the battery and powering the laptop directly through the power adapter.
  • Inspect the charging port: Look for any visible damage or debris in the charging port of the laptop. Clean it gently using compressed air or a soft brush, if needed.
  • Connect to an external display: Use an HDMI or VGA cable to connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If the external display shows a picture and the laptop works normally, it could indicate an issue with the laptop's display.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
