Hey, I am not able to log in to my HP Stream laptop. When I try to enter the password the keyboard doesn’t type letters. But it types letter when after several attempts I need to type A1B2C3.
I tried to use both an external keyboard and a desktop keyboard. Both didn’t work.
Can you suggest how I can fix this?

Hi @Asarg889,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a few potential issues with your HP Stream laptop, either related to the keyboard settings, drivers, or a possible system error. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Check for Sticky Keys or Filter Keys:

  • Go to the login screen.
  • Click on the Ease of Access icon (usually located at the bottom right corner of the screen).
  • Make sure Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys are all turned off.

Restart Your Laptop in Safe Mode:

  • Power off your laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately start pressing the F8 key until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
  • If you can log in with Safe Mode, there might be a software conflict causing the keyboard issue.

Use the On-Screen Keyboard:

  • On the login screen, click on the Ease of Access icon.
  • Select "On-Screen Keyboard" and use it to type your password and log in.

Check Keyboard Layout:

  • Make sure the keyboard layout is set correctly (e.g., US English).
  • On the login screen, click on the language option (usually at the bottom right corner) to ensure it is set to your preferred language.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Once logged in (possibly using the on-screen keyboard), update the keyboard drivers.
  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager).
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select "Update driver."
  • Follow the prompts to update the driver.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, you might be able to resolve it by restoring your system to a previous state.
  • Open the Start menu, search for "System Restore," and follow the prompts to restore your system to a point before the issue started.

Reset Your PC:

  • As a last resort, you can reset your PC to its factory settings.
  • Go to the login screen, hold down the Shift key, and click on the Power icon, then select Restart.
  • Your PC will restart to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  • Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Remove everything.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
