HP Stream 13-c000 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have an HP 11.6" Stream 11-Y009TU Celeron N3060 2GB RAM 32GB eMMC HD Notebook which was having trouble booting up the Operating System.  I got the message that the operating system wouldn't load.  So I tried to recover it but got the message:

"Windows 10 Automatic Repair Couldn’t Repair Your PC".  So I googled this and found the following fix (from windowsreport.com), which I tried.

  1. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
  2. Select Command Prompt from list of options.
  3. When Command Prompt appears, enter the following lines and press Enter after each line in order to run it:
    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    • bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    • bootrec.exe /fixboot
  4. Some users are also suggesting that you need to run additional chkdskcommands as well. To perform these commands, you need to know drive letters for all your hard drive partitions. In Command Prompt you should enter the following (but remember to use the letters that match your hard drive partitions on your PC):
    • chkdsk /r c:
    • chkdsk /r d:

Once I ran this, the computer rebooted but is now in a cycle of trying to boot up but just showing a brief cursor in the top left hand corner of the screen for one second and then turning off again.

I have tried holding the power button to short circuit this cycle and to do the volume down, then press the power button for 3-5 seconds but this doesn't do anything.

Any advice what to try next would be most appreciated!

Hi:

You should be able to clean install W10 by using the media creation tool at the link below.

The only problem with that is you will lose the Office 365 program that came with your notebook.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The utility will allow you to make a bootable W10 USB flash drive.

The software will automatically work with the W10 OEM product key in your PC's BIOS.

W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Then go to your model PC's support page to install the drivers and available software.

Thanks for your reply Paul.

I tried this by running the program from the command prompt.  However I got the message:

This version of E:\MediaCreationTool.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.  Check your computer's system information and then contact the software publisher.

None of the recovery options available when I hit F11 after powering on seems to work.

I also tried changin the date in the BIOS to 2016 because I read somewhere that can help, it didn't.

You would want to boot from the installation USB (tap the Esc key when powering up and then F9 for boot options) and the install program will run allowing you to delete all the partitions and do a fresh installation.

You're very welcome.

You will have to make the W10 installation media from another Windows PC.

OK, so after a short delay - school holidays(!), I have gone back to trying to fix this.

I created the installation disk from another HP Laptop and this worked well.

However, when I tried to boot from an other device (USB) on the Stream, it failed to load.

The process I used was to hit F11 and then when offered the "Choose and option" screen, I chose "Use a Device".

"EFI USB Device"

The message I then received wa "The selected boot device failed.  Press <Enter> to Continue.

I also tried doing the Esc then F9 and booting from the command prompt technique rendering the same result.

Thanks Kyle.  I tried it this way, but got the following message:

The selected boot device failed.  Press <Enter> to Continue.

Hi

Errrr

I think it may be ESC, F9 to boot from a made media, like your W10 USB?

But I am sure someone will correct me if I have erred.

and a HOW2 is here...
