Following up on issue HP Sure Start detected an unauthorized intrusion to the HP r... - HP Support Community - 8426221 I wanted to report back on the only workaround that has worked for me:
- Update to the latest BIOS. As of 2022-11-30, the version should be 1.10 or 1.11, depending on your model.
- Turn off Sure Start in the BIOS: F10 > Security > BIOS Sure Start > Enhanced HP Firmware Runtime Intrusion Prevention and Detection = off
- Change your Synaptics SMBus driver to Intel: Windows > Device Manager > System Devices > Synaptics SMBus > Driver > Update Driver > Browse My Computer For Drivers > Let me pick from a list > Intel(R) SMBus - 43A3
This will suppress the Sure Start BIOS warning at boot, and allow normal shut down, including the power light and fans. This appears to work on most of the ZBook line-up: Fury, Studio, Create, Firefly.
Rant: I truly despise the junk that HP bakes into their laptops, especially when it doesn't behave with a fresh install of Windows 10. Dear HP, I do not want your Wolf Security. I do not want your intrusion prevention if it cannot work out of the box. I do not want to fiddle with Intel vs Synaptics. I do not want to click accept EULA fifty times when I'm installing drivers from your auto detect support site. Stop making it so difficult to support your hardware. Dell doesn't give me this trouble. Apple certainly doesn't give me this trouble. You're a multi-billion dollar company. Figure it out.
