Updating the BIOS of HP T430 thin clients has proven to be challenging.  In addition to having to hunt for a Windows PC that did not bomb-out when extracting the BIOS update files from the downloaded ZIP file, I also had an issues executing the update utility from within the existing BIOS.

This issue relates only to BIOS updates using the HPBiosUpdate utility launched from within the BIOS itself.   That utility apparently launches files from a USB rescue thumb drive that you create from a Windows PC, simply by running the EXE file downloaded from HP for updating your particular BIOS (of which there are three variants N41, N44, N46).

The issue seemed to be that older BIOS versions looked for a "Hewlett-Packard" folder instead of the "HP" folder on the thumb drive.   I received a "File missing or damaged" error when trying to flash an older version of the BIOS with a more current version.   To resolve the issue, I needed to change the folder name on the rescue drive to "Hewlett-Packard".  Even better: simply duplicate the folder (so that they retain both an "HP" and a "Hewlett-Packard" folder, so that the upgrade would work no matter what BIOS you are upgrading from.

I am posting this as a reference for other users, and for HP's consideration to improve future BIOS update versions.   This took me several hours to diagnose, and I hope to spare others a similar fate.
