Example: Model HP 14q-cs0017TU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP laptop 14Q-cs0017TU, Windows 10l. The HP True Vision Webcam stopped working after some Windows updates. Camera not detecting by "Device Manager"  ( with repeated scan for hardware changes click)also surprisingly along with this camera disappear, Device Manager, one of the USB devices displaying a "yellow" mark error saying "Unknown USB Device( Device Descriptor Failed". I  suspect the webcam driver and this USB unknow device clashing somewhere. I have tried with lots of options found in various sources to fix it, but nothing worked.  Starting from updating the driver from device Manager, fix through Hardware Troubleshooter, uninstall the device from Device Manager, finally Bios Upgrade followed by entire PC Reset in the recovery menu. Even the problem persists.

Please help me to come out of this frustrating scenario at the earliest. I am not able to find any other option.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Are you able to use the Web camera?
  • Are you experiencing any issue accessing the webcam app or software?

If your computer came with a built-in webcam, Microsoft and HP provides software that you can use with your webcam. If this software program is removed, you can reinstall it from here and Click here for HP PCs and Notebook - Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 😎

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Dear HP Support Team,

After a long time glad to see your response. No, I am not able to access the integrated webcam. Your question's clarification is below:

  • Are you able to use the Web camera?  == > NO, Since the integrated webcam is not detected by the "device" Manager, Another notable observation is when the camera disparaged ( 99 % times) the Device Manager listed "an Unknown  USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request failed), I have tried with  HARD RESET MY PC (  repeated f11 key and then Troubleshoot reset my PC). It did not help too 😞
  • Are you experiencing any issue accessing the webcam app or software?     ==> This is explained above "Camera app" not able to access the camera because it is not detected in Device Manager", even HARD RESET ( FACTORY RESET) did not work, Camera came for 30 mins then again disappeared from the Device Manager and UNKNOWN USB DEVICE ( DEVICE DESCRIPTOR REQUEST FAIL) showing in device manager USB controller list.

Since FACTORY REST DID NOT WORK ( Even without installing any applications after that), I AM WORRIED HOW TO FIX THIS WEBCAM NOT WORKING  ISSUE IN WINDOWS 10. Also, the issue in Device Manager USB fails ( yellow mark) UNKNOWN USB DEVICE ( DEVICE DESCRIPTOR REQUEST FAIL). Seems they are interlinked each other

Regards,

Subrata

Thank you posting back.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
