Hi,

I tried to fill the Operating System OS which is Windows 11 and the product name which is HP Victus 15.

I have 16Go of RAM in it when i first bought it. I then search for 32Go RAM. So i now have 32Go RAM installed in the PC but when i charge it, it automatically shut down after a few random time. Sometimes, it's when i don't use the mouse, other is when i just don't do something for few secondes.

So why does it happen only with 32Go RAM ? Now i change it back to 16 and everything is normal, but i don't know if it is because of the charger, it is a 200W.

If you have any answer, please help me !

Hi @GirunoGuy

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how unsettling it feels when your laptop shuts down unexpectedly, especially after upgrading the RAM and expecting smoother performance. Thank you for carefully testing both the 16 GB and 32 GB configurations—that shows real persistence and attention to detail.

Here’s what’s happening and how you can approach it:

Why it happens with 32 GB RAM

  • Compatibility limits: Not all HP Victus 15 models support 32 GB RAM. Even if the slots physically accept the modules, the system board and BIOS may only be validated for 16 GB or 24 GB.
  • RAM specifications: If the new modules differ in voltage, frequency, or timing from the original, the system can become unstable, especially under load or when charging.
  • Power draw: Higher‑capacity RAM can slightly increase power demand. If the charger or power management system is stressed, it may trigger shutdowns when charging.

Steps to try

Check maximum supported memory

Verify RAM specifications

  • Ensure both modules are identical in speed (MHz), voltage, and type.
  • Mixing different specs can cause instability.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly during startup → F2 → System Tests → Memory Test.
  • This checks if the 32 GB modules are functioning correctly.

Update BIOS and drivers

  • Go to HP’s driver page for your Victus 15:
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  • Enter your product number and install the latest BIOS and chipset updates.
  • These updates improve hardware compatibility.

Test with one 16 GB module at a time

  • Insert a single 16 GB stick from the new set.
  • If stable, the issue may be with dual‑channel configuration or one faulty module.

Check charger and power settings

  • Use the original HP charger that matches your laptop’s specifications.
  • In Windows, go to Settings → System → Power & battery → Additional power settings and ensure Balanced mode is selected.

You’ve already shown great care by swapping back to 16 GB and confirming stability. The next step is to verify whether your specific Victus 15 model supports 32 GB RAM at all. If it doesn’t, staying at 16 GB or using validated modules will ensure smooth performance.

Would you like me to share how to generate a System Information Report in Windows? That can confirm the exact RAM type and maximum supported capacity for your laptop.
