HP Victus Gaming Laptop

I am currently sitting with an issue where the laptop just all of a sudden does not boot up.

My customer has had issues with it for quite a while where end of last week, it just decided to BSOD almost instantly when loading into windows. ( Everytime )

I backed up all their data on the laptop and reload windows 11 onto the machine last night and worked on it this morning. It worked fine without any issues of BSOD, although the windows button didn’t work at all.

As I wanted to work on the laptop now, I opened it up and wanted to install other software, it just didn’t boot up. The Power light flickers on the power button, but nothing happens, the screen is dead black and I have tried a few simple ways to reset the power etc. Still the same issue.

Hi @Ruan15,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be, especially after you went through the effort of backing up data and reinstalling Windows, only to be met with a black screen and flickering power light. You're doing everything right, and I’m here to help you through this with care and clarity.

1. Power Drain Reset

  • Disconnect the charger.
  • If the battery is removable, take it out. If not, leave it in.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then try powering it on.

2. CMOS Reset (Keyboard Combo)

  • Press and hold the Windows key + V, then press the power button once.
  • Keep holding Windows + V for 5 seconds, then release.
  • This may trigger a CMOS reset and help revive the system

3. BIOS Recovery

If the screen remains black but the power light flickers:

  • Plug in the charger.
  • Press and hold the Windows key + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button, but continue holding Windows + B until you hear beeps or see the BIOS recovery screen

4. Isolate Power Source

  • Try booting with only the battery connected.
  • Then try with only the charger connected.
  • This helps identify if either the battery or charger is causing the issue

5. Consider BIOS Update via USB

If the laptop shows signs of life but doesn’t boot, a corrupted BIOS could be the culprit. You can update the BIOS using a USB recovery drive. Here's a guide from HP:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
