Hi,

my laptop can't find a camera. When I open Camera app it says "We can't find your camera" with error signature "0xA00f4244<NoCamerasAreAttached>". This is a laptop with built-in camera, and I had been using it, but for some time it hasn't been working anymore.

I have tried plenty solutions and troubleshootings, also using advices from this forum and Microsoft forum, eventually reinstalling Windows 11.

Now, having a plain windows I have tried:

-Checked if there is any physical switch enabling the camera on the laptop - as far as I know, this laptop doesn't have one.
-Checking privacy settings - camera access is enabled for everything.
-Checking camera settings on Windows - Windows couldn't find any cameras.
-Checking device manager with hidden devices also shown, also tried "Scan for hardware changes" - no "Cameras" or "Imaging Devices" sections shown,

Windows Update is up to date.
HP Support Assistant says I'm up to date.

I have also attached external USB camera and it also worked, so it appears it is a problem with just the built-in camera.

What can be the case?

Hi @PiotrekC,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already tried many of the common troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional things you can check to resolve the issue with your built-in camera:

Check BIOS Settings: Sometimes the camera can be disabled in the BIOS settings. To check this:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F10, F2, or Esc during startup).
  • Look for any settings related to the built-in camera and make sure it is enabled.
  • Save and exit the BIOS setup, then restart your laptop.

Reinstall Camera Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • If you don't see "Imaging Devices" or "Cameras," try looking under System Devices or Unknown Devices.
  • If you find any related entries, right-click and choose Uninstall device. Restart your laptop to let Windows attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
  • If no drivers are found, visit the HP Support website and search for the specific model of your Victus laptop to download and install the latest camera drivers.

Check HP Support Website: Sometimes, specific drivers or firmware updates are needed. Ensure you have the latest drivers from HP: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Go to the HP Support website and enter your laptop’s model number.
  • Download and install any camera drivers or firmware updates listed.

Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to see if it detects any issues with the built-in camera.

Check for Hardware Issues: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

  • Since an external camera works, there could be a hardware issue with the built-in camera.

Check System Files:

  • Run the System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool (DISM) to check for and repair any corrupt system files.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands
      sfc /scannow
      DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
