Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

just turn the computer on. Frozen on black HP wolf security screen. Forced it off by holding the power key down. Press the power key again. Comes on and freezes at the same spot. This is the first time for this, I’ve had the computer for two years.

Hi @Movieland,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It looks like your HP computer is stuck at the HP Wolf Security screen during boot. Since you've forced a restart and the issue persists, try these troubleshooting steps.

Power Cycle the Laptop

  1. Turn off your laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, external monitors, printers, etc.).
  3. Unplug the power adapter.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  5. Plug the power adapter back in and turn it on.

Boot into Safe Mode

If power cycling doesn’t work, try booting into Safe Mode:

  1. Turn on the laptop and immediately start pressing the F11 key repeatedly.
  2. If the HP Recovery Environment opens, select Advanced options > Startup Settings > Safe Mode.
  3. If it boots into Safe Mode, try restarting normally.

Perform a Hard Reset

For desktops:

  • Turn off the PC, unplug the power cord, and press the power button for 15 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on.

For laptops:

  • Remove the battery (if removable), unplug the charger, and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect and power on.

Try a BIOS Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Press and hold Win + B while pressing the power button for 2-3 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding Win + B.
  3. If you hear beeps, wait for the BIOS recovery screen and follow the instructions.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the issue persists, it might be caused by a failing SSD or corrupted system files.
  • If your PC has Windows 11 or 10 installed, you might need to reinstall Windows using a bootable USB.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I performed a variation on this. The old school forcing it to Power Off and then turning it back on. I believe I also pressed the Esc button to shoot for Safe Mode unsuccessfully. I think the third time...it unfroze. Crossing our fingers looking forward. Glad to have your recommended method guide. Thank you for getting back.
