HP Z2 G8 Tower Workstation Desktop PC (287S3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello I am trying to access BIOS set up and have tried starting using F10 key or advanced windows set up options but on reboot the monitor is blank and does not look like it is receiving any signal from the PC. Its a HP M27 monitor connected using the DVI port.

On start up I hold the F10 key and the computer beeps once but the screen remains blank?

I've tried heaps of options. Any suggestions?

Hello Philm15,

Thank you for posting your concern,

When encountering a blank screen when trying to access the BIOS setup on your HP Z2 G8 Tower Workstation, it can be quite concerning. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Connections

  1. Verify Cable Connection: Ensure that the DVI cable connecting your HP M27 monitor and the workstation is securely connected at both ends.

  2. Try a Different Port: If possible, try using another video output port on your workstation, such as HDMI or DisplayPort, to see if the issue persists.

  3. Monitor Settings: Ensure that the monitor is set to the correct input source that matches the connection type you're using.

Accessing BIOS Setup

  1. F10 Timing: Make sure you are pressing the F10 key at the right moment. As soon as you power on the workstation, begin tapping the F10 key repeatedly until the BIOS screen appears.

  2. Hard Reset: Perform a hard reset by turning off the workstation, removing the power cable, then holding down the power button for about 15 seconds. After that, reconnect the power and try again.

  3. Use Windows Recovery: Since accessing BIOS using F10 isn't working, you can try using the Windows Recovery method again. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Advanced startup and then select Restart now. On restart, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings.

Additional Troubleshooting

  1. BIOS Recover Jumper: If you are comfortable, verify and possibly use the BIOS recovery jumper on the motherboard to reset the BIOS settings. Refer to your workstation’s manual for specific instructions.

  2. Test with Another Monitor: If accessible, try connecting another monitor to rule out the possibility of a faulty monitor.

Contact Support

If after trying these steps you continue to experience issues accessing BIOS, it may be necessary to contact HP Support for further assistance. They can provide more detailed guidance based on your specific hardware configuration.
