Hi everyone: How are you?
I need some further assistance with my device & do not have the terminology, words/verbiage to put much here.
It went down Monday morning, display frozen, cursor not getting to the taskbar, not able to do much.
I have been able to run HP diagnostics & okay, able to unistall windows malware updates back past 12-2-2026 & yesterday it seems to be okay except the mouse usb not plugged in (works on another device), attempted 4 times to Restore point with a usb & that did not work.
I need my device at my 55+ years of age for shopping & being isolated out here & definitely need to get the device operational without such worries, fears, anxietiex, & no longer feel like throwing it to the wall.
I was looking into dual booting with Linux the day before it went down & I'm well aware I have no control over much with "windows malware".
I'm open to suggestions just going to need to know how to do that & my fears of what can happen after that.
Thank you.

Hi @Laurel-j,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- Which HP model are you using (laptop or desktop, and the exact series if possible)?
- When the display froze, did you notice any error messages or unusual sounds?
- You mentioned the USB mouse works on another device does your HP device recognize any USB peripherals right now?
- After uninstalling the recent Windows updates, is the system booting normally, or do you still notice lag/freezing?
A few troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Check Device Manager
- Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
- Look under “Mice and other pointing devices” to see if your USB mouse is listed. If it is, right-click and choose Update driver.
- Run Windows Hardware Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot → Additional troubleshooters.
- Run the troubleshooter for “Hardware and Devices.”
- Test USB Ports
- Try plugging the mouse into different USB ports.
- If none respond, it may be a driver or chipset issue.
- Check HP Support Assistant
- If installed, open HP Support Assistant and run updates for drivers and firmware.
- System File Check
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Type: sfc /scannow → press Enter.
- This will scan and repair corrupted system files
I hope this helps.

Sorry Deepworld for my late reply or response (these have gone to spam) & I'm slowly coming out of the shock of this ordeal with my HP laptop model/mode.
What are you referencing in regards to series for my laptop?
no error messages or unusual sounds when display froze ( prior to the display freezing, the wifi driver or list of internet connections disappeared, my Office Home & Student 2019 is gone replaced via windows with that Office 365, there is an audio driver disabled that windows did not replace, I Feedback to Microsoft then the display froze.)
the File Explorer I do not recall if it is acknowledging anything connected to it, the sound for a connection had gone away till this past weekend acknowleding the mouse usb plugged in & taken out.
the system boots after removing a couple of the EOB & the recent updates yet the display freezes seems after I get some doc.s pulled up, after I connnect the mouse usb
I had the Device Mgr,, the control mgr, the task mgr., & the HP audio mgr kept popping up.
I do Greatly Appreciate your help & suggestions; I'm still a bit panicked scared of my laptop not working again, afraid to do anything or I'll piss off "windows", I'm aware none of us are responsible for "windows malware" & I have to find someway to get away from that without losing my Office Word suite.
I will further update you in a few
Thank you.

In my further information to you Deepworld today:
I have been reading quite a bit about windows recent updates & problems Microsoft said they were working on; to the best of my understanding & knowledge the problems were not something I was experiencing. KB5074828, KB5077181, & KB5074109.
I did get a Code 10 error I guess for the audio driver & a Code 43 error with several “drivers listed as bad or hardware reported bad via internet search-(not sure why that error code belongs to my device specifically) during the display freeze & the attempt to either uninstall updates or attempting to get the sound back or may also reflect the mouse usb. I’m slowly catching up to my memory recall with quite a bit of this & doing what I could in research on another device experiencing the same thing(s). There was even an Error code 30068 in my attempt to delete the Office 365 to reinstall my Office Home & Student 2019.
Right now the Settings has turned blue screen with no minimizing, enlarging, or x out of it to check something out.
On Saturday I did uninstall several more updates along with the EOB updates & it seemed okay with the touch pad, I was able to load some Word docs. & decided to put it to sleep to see what happens next ( windows has its enforcement of their updates upon my device & I Feeback to no avail. Sunday I woke it up & things are still there so I checked for enforced updates with none there & took my time loading the rest of my work. I was able to do another Restore point & have another mouse usb, prior to putting it to sleep for today; windows updates are back for the device to be restarted-that will not happen not today not ever for me only when they force it to restart. The original mouse somehow seemed to do better on the other device Saturday & I have left it there for now.
I’m sure I’m forgetting something in all of this.

Hi @Laurel-j,
Thanks for your response.
I can completely your concern and You’ve already done a lot of careful troubleshooting on your own, and that shows great persistence. Let’s go step by step to try and stabilize your HP device.
What the error codes mean
- Code 10 (Audio driver) → This usually means the driver failed to start. It can be caused by a corrupted update or missing driver files.
- Code 43 (USB/mouse or other hardware) → Windows detected a problem with the device or driver. Sometimes this is temporary, but repeated freezes suggest a deeper driver conflict.
- Error 30068 (Office) → This is common when uninstalling/reinstalling Office. It usually points to leftover files or registry entries blocking the installation.
Here are a few additional things you can try safely:
- Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a System Test (especially memory and hard drive) to rule out hardware issues.
- Reinstall drivers directly from HP
- Visit HP’s support site for your exact laptop model (you’ll need the series/model number from the sticker on the bottom or inside the battery compartment).
- Download and install the latest audio, chipset, and graphics drivers. This often resolves Code 10 and Code 43 errors after Windows updates.
- Temporarily pause Windows Updates
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Pause updates for 7–35 days.
- This will give you breathing room to stabilize the system without new updates interfering.
- Repair Office installation
- Open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select Office 365 (even if you want to use Office 2019) → choose Change → Repair.
- Once repaired, you can uninstall Office 365 and reinstall your Office Home & Student 2019 from your original product key or installer.
- Check USB power settings
- Open Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click each USB Root Hub → Properties → Power Management tab → uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
- This can prevent freezes when plugging/unplugging a mouse.
- Create a fresh Restore Point
- Since you’ve already used restore points successfully, create a new one now that the system is somewhat stable. This gives you a fallback if things worsen.
I hope this helps.

Good Day Deep World:
info from me again sorry I'm under duress & stress & with All of the information you have given in your Help-Greatly Appreciated! & I'm attempting to catch up to it all.
Everything was fine smooth with all those updates uninstalled till last night, yesterday there is a forced Boot update….
Again, no audio, unmuting the sound put the video in pause, I checked the Audio driver in Device Mgr. & updated or went back to a previous driver which removed the Code 10 error again, I checked all the other Audio & video devices there & it reads everything is operating as appropriate. I attempted to update the driver Windows said it is updated. I attempted to windows Audio troubleshooter & check the sound that took a while to load & the mouse & touch pad cannot click or change anything. I used the HP Support Assistant to check Audio & it states it fixed the problems it found & upon clicking Sound test still no audio & can not click the “unable to hear audio” link underneath the blue lined circle to test audio. Decided to run HP Operating System-all is Well. There is not sound when unplugging the mouse usb, when the low battery indicates (the chime is again missing). Running HP Device check again for Playback & Audio Driver update-Drivers are installed & up to date. Playback test failed HP lets me troubleshoot. Additional information via HP audio playback test; there is a problem playing back audio or sounds from the speakers; 2 Options to choose from “Additional guidance recommended unplug & reconnect the speakers to the computer (not sure if HP would warrant me to do that & not in the mood last night to do some screwdriver work), 2nd option; “The following documents are available for reference HP Desktop PCs-No Sound from the Computer (windows 10). Lovely predicament I have in the Simple Basics of using this device. Will see what windows 10 has to read maybe I’ll go back to windows for them to check the driver again, wonder is I have to restart the device after the returning to a previous driver, Settings Sound not reads “no output device found, volume is turned low/off, can switch the mono to off, in Device manager reads “this device is working properly”-Geez whom do I believe how am I to actually know where the problem is HP says & windows says another, am running windows trouble shooter for “Playing Audio” result “troubleshooting couldn’t identify the problem”
In Device Mgr. checking Speaker Update Drivers “windows states the best driver is already installed”
I do not understand why Device Mgr., Control Panel, & Task Mgr. all ask if I want the “app” to make changes to your device” should I deny it the “app” will not open & I have to research what type/kind of changes it makes to your device, they never asked that before & tonight the only one to ask is Device Mgr. (probably something to do with windows & the recent changes they have made to accommodate others YET to disturb the Basic Simple laptop operations like ME.
Its Saturday morning the start of another Beautiful day, got some bills paid via internet (mandated for Elderly Humans), & restarted my device. The speaker icon bottom right taskbar no longer has an X on it,
I checked for video & its back with audio. I pulled up the Control Panel still has my Office Home & Student 2019 & still does not show Office 365 (A Good thing). I pulled up the Device Mgr. & again if I want the “app” to make changes to my device. There are no more caution triangles on anything in the System Devices, upon checking the System speaker windows indicates there is no drivers installed for this device (okay yet there is sound with the speaker now-Best to leave that alone), with the AMD Audio CoProcessor it reads; “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)” (Best to leave it alone since there is sound now?), all the Universal Serial Bus listing are reported as all Working properly, System Realtek speak is working properly, everything under Audio Processing Objects are all working properly, last night I checked a few other things & all working properly.
I was able to change the updates to 4 weeks all the time allowed; I would LIKE to turn that off permanently. I can not uninstall the recent Secure Boot Allowed Signature Database-bummer! the Settings is again working & I have not got back to HP Support Assistant today, figured everything is okay since the audio & video is back again.
Bless you in All you do
Stay Healthy!!!

Hi @Laurel-j,
Thanks for your response,
Hello, thank you for sharing all those details with us. You’ve already done a lot of careful troubleshooting, and that persistence is commendable.
From what you’ve described, it sounds like the audio driver and system updates are clashing intermittently, which explains why the sound disappears and then reappears after restarts or rollbacks. The Code 43 and Code 10 errors you mentioned usually point to driver or compatibility issues, not hardware failure, so it’s good news that your speakers themselves are likely fine.
I know this has been a lot to juggle, but the fact that your audio and video are back is a very positive sign. If the issue resurfaces after the next update, we can look into manually reinstalling the Realtek driver directly from HP’s support site, which often bypasses Windows’ automatic driver handling.
You’ve been very thorough, and that persistence is exactly what helps resolve these tricky update conflicts.
If the problem returns, we’ll tackle it step by step together.
I hope this helps.

Thank you, Deep World for all your support & assistance-Greatly Appreciated!
I’m slowly getting myself into a stable aspect of all of this.
Oh! Drivers are not the hardware still learning something even without student loans.
The “tricky update conflicts” I call “windows malware”, they hold the device so it does not operate & I have to figure it all out & it is very exhausting, therefore I blame “windows” for creating the problem(s).
I’m going to stabilize myself for a few days & attempt to get to a somewhat normal again & go from there.
Thank you for your future assistance with this for me-Greatly Appreciated!
