Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a HP envy laptop which recently stopped detecting my internal SSD and was not booting. On diagnosis from HP service, they confirmed only option was to replace the motherboard which was very costly. Their inference was that there is no signal sent to HDD from CPU ;  I am assuming a shorted motherboard.

So as an interim, a bought an external SSD connector from Ineo. It connects via USB 3.1 type C port. To my surprise after powering on, my laptop booted into Windows and looks to be working OK, though I did recieve the famous blue screen of death few times. Mainly it looks to be from my Nvidia onboard graphics drivers.

SSD is heating up ( not super hot ), so just thinking is it safe to continue like this ? Else, I would be left with a dead laptop.

Regards

Kelvin.

HP service in India ( I curently live in India , laptop was purchased from USA in 2018) confirmed that they do not perform chip level servicing of motherboards, but only opt for motherboard replacement.

For my model , motherboard replacement costs allmost 50% of the laptop price, as CPU, RAM and graphics is inbuilt into the board.

Are there any other options for me here to try out ? I am also not sure about the speeds I will get if I connect my SSD externally via USB 3.1 type C port.
