@Adam_3B, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Laptop 17 Charging Issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
When your HP Laptop 17 stops charging and the battery dies, leading to an inability to restart the laptop, several troubleshooting steps may help resolve the issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.
Step 1: Check the Power Adapter and Connections
- Verify Power Outlet: Ensure that the power outlet is functioning correctly by plugging in another device to confirm it supplies power.
- Inspect Power Adapter: Check the power adapter for any visible damage, such as frayed cables or bent connectors.
- Reconnect Adapter: Disconnect and reconnect the power adapter from the laptop and the power outlet to ensure a secure connection.
Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect All Peripherals: Remove all USB devices, external drives, and other peripherals connected to the laptop.
- Unplug the Power Adapter: Remove the power adapter from the laptop.
- Remove the Battery: If possible, remove the battery by following the instructions specific to your laptop model. Note that some HP laptops have non-removable batteries.
- Discharge Residual Power: Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect and Restart: Reinsert the battery (if applicable), plug in the power adapter, and try to turn on the laptop.
Step 3: Use an Alternate Power Adapter
If you have access to a compatible power adapter, connect it to your laptop to check if the laptop powers on. This helps identify if the issue is with the original adapter.
Step 4: Inspect the Battery and Charging Port
- Clean the Charging Port: Use compressed air to clean the charging port on your laptop to ensure there is no dust or debris obstructing the connection.
- Battery Status: If the battery is removable, check its condition. Swollen or damaged batteries should be replaced.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
