My HP 14s laptop gives a black screen and blinking Caps Lock. F10, F11, Windows+B nor Windows+V work.

Hi @NadinevGelder,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 14s laptop shows a black screen with the Caps Lock blinking and none of the usual key combinations are working. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

    a. Understand the Blink Code
        • Blinking Caps Lock LED usually indicates a hardware issue, often related to memory (RAM) or system board failure.
        • Count the number of blinks — HP uses this to indicate specific errors (e.g., 2 blinks = BIOS corruption, 3 blinks = memory error).

    b. Perform a Hard Reset
        • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
        • Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.
        • Reconnect only the charger and attempt to power on.

    c. Reseat Memory (RAM)
        • If comfortable opening the laptop, remove the RAM modules and reinsert them firmly.
        • If there are two modules, try booting with one module at a time to identify a faulty stick.

    d. Disconnect External Devices
        • Remove USB drives, printers, and external monitors.
        • Sometimes peripherals can prevent the laptop from completing POST (Power-On Self-Test).

    e. BIOS Recovery Attempt (if possible)
        • Some HP laptops allow BIOS recovery by pressing Windows + B while powering on.
        • Since you mentioned this didn’t work, it may indicate deeper hardware or BIOS corruption.

    f. Test with External Display
        • Connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA.
        • If the external display works, the issue may be the laptop screen or display connector.

I hope this helps.
