Hello. My friend gave me his HP laptop. As for the model It's a hp 14s-dq1021nf. He said it didn't work, and as expected, I plugged in the charger (I used two different chargers that were known to work) and it didn't turn on. the power light was blinking in orange and white as soon as I pressed the power button. So I decided to remove the battery (I tested it, it was dead). Now it was just blinking white, the orange was gone. There is no specific number of light blinks, it just blinks indefinitely. I also tried changing ram sticks, pressing power button without plugging the charger in, pressing windows + b while booting but nothing really happened. I noticed the CPU was heating after some time, however, the fans don't spin. If anyone have an idea of the cause and/or any idea on how to fix it, I'd gladly appreciate it. And if you need more details feel free to ask.

Hi @Maylina53,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 14s-dq1021nf laptop is not booting, with the power light blinking white indefinitely, fans not spinning, and the CPU heating up even without the battery. Based on your description, this points to a hardware-level failure rather than a software or Windows issue. Here’s a structured way to troubleshoot and understand the cause:

1. Understand the Blink Codes

HP laptops use power LED blink codes to indicate hardware errors.

Continuous white blinking (without a specific pattern) usually points to motherboard or power circuit issues, especially if the CPU heats up but fans don’t spin.

2. Confirm Power Delivery

You already tested two chargers, which rules out the adapter.

With the battery removed, the laptop should still power on via AC. Since it doesn’t, this indicates a motherboard or power circuitry problem.

3. Minimal Hardware Test

Remove all non-essential hardware: extra RAM sticks, SSD/HDD, USB devices.

Attempt to power on with only one RAM stick in the first slot.

If still not powering, the issue is likely internal components.

4. Fan & CPU Behavior

CPU heating without fans spinning shows that the system is receiving some power but the motherboard isn’t initializing fans or boot sequence.

This usually indicates motherboard failure or damaged power IC.

5. BIOS Recovery Attempt

You tried Windows + B to force BIOS recovery, but since the laptop isn’t posting at all, the BIOS isn’t initializing.

This rules out a BIOS corruption, it's more likely hardware-related.

I hope this helps.
