I took my laptop in for repair last month and since having it back the laptop no longer goes into sleep mode when the lid is closed. Additionally, the laptop gives no warning when the battery is running low and the screen goes black before any notification of low battery is given. I have checked that the settings for power are set to "show icon and notifications" but the problem is still there. Similiarly, I have checked that the laptop is set to sleep mode when the laptop lid is closed, but again it is still not working. What should I do?

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a recent Software or Windows update?

1: Enabling the Keyboard in Windows
Skip this step if the computer does not enter sleep mode or if the computer wakes unexpectedly.
Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:
In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.
Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.
If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.
If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.
If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.
Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer. If the computer still cannot wake from sleep mode, continue using these steps.
Do the same for the mouse and wifi adapter also.

Hi David. This is still an issue with new HP notebooks. We have a brand new HP 14-df0053od which would not go to sleep, lock, or accept MS updates. All button, lid, and battery settings were default. MS Troubleshooter would not work. Your 15 second reset worked fine - fixed all issues. So question for HP is how they could deliver a notebook in this condition? Thanks.
