I have a real puzzler here and was hoping one of the experts could help.
I have an HP Elitebootk 8460p, and I want to run MX Linux on it. It boots from the USB just fine, and installs without a hitch. But when I reboot after installation, it won't boot from the hard drive. It doesn't seem to recognize Linux.
I've tried every possible combination of BIOS settings. UEFI or legacy boot, tinkering with the boot order, etc. Always with secureboot disabled.
I believe I know what the problem is: the BIOS is written for Windows and isn't "Linux-aware". On other HPs, I've been able to create a customized boot, type in the path to GRUB, and it boots okay. But this machine doesn't offer an option to create a customized boot.
And here's what galls me: when I got it, it had MX Linux on it, and booted MX Linux just fine. (I've been trying to install the newest version.) So it CAN be done. Obviously whoever installed MX before knew something I don't.
So, that brings me to my question. Can anyone here suggest a solution? Is there maybe something in the MX installation where I can move GRUB to the place where Windows would put its boot files? Or maybe create a different kind of ESP/EFI partition? Or maybe something else?
