Hi @Matthew180

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m sorry you’re stuck at 8% during the reset — that can be very discouraging after already trying BIOS and GPU updates. Since the reset is hanging, it usually means the recovery image on the device isn’t completing properly.

Let’s go through a clear path to get Windows reinstalled and the laptop back to working order.

Step 1: Allow time, then force restart

  • Sometimes the reset process can appear stuck but is still working in the background. If it has been frozen for several hours with no progress, hold the power button until the laptop shuts down.
  • Power it back on and see if the reset resumes or if it returns to the same screen.

Step 2: Use HP Recovery Environment

  • Turn the laptop off.
  • Power it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly.
  • This should open the HP Recovery Environment.
  • From here, choose Troubleshoot > Recovery Manager and attempt a fresh recovery.

Step 3: Try Cloud Recovery if local fails

If the local recovery image is corrupted, use HP Cloud Recovery:

  1. On another Windows PC, download the HP Cloud Recovery Tool.
  2. Create a bootable USB recovery drive.
  3. Insert the USB into your laptop and boot from it (press F9 at startup to select boot device).
  4. Follow on‑screen instructions to reinstall Windows.

Step 4: Windows Installation Media

If recovery tools don’t work, you can use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to reinstall Windows 10 or 11.

  • Download from Microsoft’s site, create a bootable USB, and reinstall Windows.
  • After installation, use the HP App to update drivers and firmware.

Step 5: After reinstall

  • Run Windows Update fully.
  • Install HP drivers and BIOS updates from your product’s support page.
  • Recheck system stability before restoring personal files.

You’ve already shown persistence by trying updates and initiating reset. At this stage, using the recovery environment or cloud recovery is the most reliable way forward. Would you like me to walk you through creating the HP Cloud Recovery USB step by step so you can start fresh without relying on the stuck local image?
