I tried to do a factory reset on HP laptop and now every time I turn on the computer I get this page. Out of all the shown options the only one I can select is the ESC UEFI. The others just take me back to the this page.

Hi @AshB1019,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. What is the exact HP laptop model you’re using?
  2. Was the factory reset initiated via Windows Settings, HP Recovery Manager, or some other method?
  3. Do you have access to a Windows installation USB or recovery media?
  4. Did the laptop show any other errors or behaviour before this reset (e.g., slow booting, crashes)?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Access UEFI/BIOS Settings
    • Restart the laptop and press ESC (or F10) to enter UEFI/BIOS.
    • Ensure the boot order is correct, with your internal drive as the first boot device.
    • Check if Secure Boot or Legacy Boot settings might be affecting the boot process.
  2. Create Windows Recovery Media
    • On another PC, download the Windows 11/10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and create a bootable USB.
    • Insert the USB into your HP laptop and boot from it via UEFI.
  3. Repair Startup
    • From the recovery USB, select Repair your computer → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Repair.
    • This can attempt to fix corrupted boot files that may be causing the 0xc000007B error.
  4. Check Disk and System Files
    • From the recovery USB, open Command Prompt and run:
    • chkdsk /f /r C:
    • sfc /scannow
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • This can repair corrupted system files and boot records.
  5. Consider Full OS Reinstallation (Make sure to back up any important files if possible)
    • If startup repair doesn’t work, you may need to perform a clean Windows installation using the recovery USB.  (though with the laptop stuck in recovery, access may be limited).

I hope this helps.

I forgot all the passwords and the fingerprint reader was only working for some of the time. I’m not sure of the model I will have to look when I get how. The reset was initiated through the f11 button upon start up. I don’t not have a usb at the moment maybe I can buy one. There were no errors, just the fact I couldn’t get it to it as it used an old email I don’t have access to and the the fingerprint portion only working sometimes

Hi

Thanks for your help.

Confirm the Exact Model (When You Can)

  • Once you’re able to check, the model will help determine the best reset or recovery method
  • This also matters for downloading the correct recovery image later

1.  Purchase a USB Flash Drive (Strongly Recommended)

  • A 16GB or larger USB drive will be enough
  • This gives you much more control than the built-in F11 recovery, especially when account issues are involved

2.  Create Windows Installation Media

  • On another working computer, use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool
  • This allows you to:
    • Perform a clean Windows installation
    • Remove all existing accounts, fingerprints, and linked emails
    • Set up the PC with a new local account or a new Microsoft account

3.  Avoid Fingerprint Setup During Initial Setup

  • Since the fingerprint reader has been inconsistent, skip biometric setup initially
  • You can add fingerprints later once the system is fully updated and stable

4. Disconnect From the Internet During Setup (If Possible)

  • This can sometimes allow you to create a local account first, avoiding forced sign-in with an old Microsoft account
  • You can reconnect after setup is complete
