Hi there,

So I have a Hp laptop and recently it just does not want to install updates. Not had this issue before, but now it’s happening and I thinks it’s  making my laptop REALLY slow. I’ll click to install the updates and it just remains on an empty bar for hours. I have tested it by clicking the install early in the morning and still by 7pm the bar has not changed. I’ve checked my storage and it’s doesn't seem to be that. I have tried like selecting what updates get installed because I thought maybe if it’s one at a time it’ll work, but nope, they don’t ever load either. I have some pics of what comes up:

Sorry if the pictures turn out sideways. The last picture is basically  what I get when I try to install all or one of the selected update soon (pic 2 shows how you can select them). I’m very confused what to do and would really like to sort it out as it’s a great laptop I use for uni a great laptop i use for uni, but it’s annoying me that they won’t install and I think it’s actually effecting my laptop. I know these are also important updates. Please if  you have any advice on what to do I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

@Bc38

Need to know the specific version of Windows 10 you are running.  If you don't know that, type "winver" (without the quotes) into the search area and report back what it says.

Based on that info, I can see if I can find out what updates you need.  In the case of Cumulative Updates, you will only need to install the latest. I will point you to a site where you can download the updates yourself.

Hi thank you for your help!

i typed in what you said and I’m currently on windows 8 version 6.3. I don’t think my laptop can update to windows 10 unfortunately, not sure though. Hope with this it will help make a bit more sense. Again thank you very much.

@Bc38

Microsoft dropped support for Windows 8 some time back and I don't know if they are even publishing security updates at this point -- as I have retired Windows 8x from all my PCs.

HP, as far as I know, also no longer carries Win8 restore media.

I wanted to see which version of Windows 10 you were running so I could point you to a site where you can download the updates manually -- but I know of no Windows 8 sites that are still working.
