If you just want to nuke the hard drive blank I can link you to an app to do that pretty easily. Some charity would still love to have it I am sure. Seems a shame to just destroy it.

I hear ya - I'll take it to my computer guy because I'm going to upgrade to Windows 10 (augh) and maybe he'll work on it for me for a few bucks.  I also hate to waste things that could be useable to someone out there.

I have a nice little hp mini 1030nr with 1gb running xp.  I'm willing to invest a bit.  Can anyone tell me, for addressability, is 2g the most it can use, or can it handle more?  4g?  8g?  

 

I can change the chip myself, no problem, static pad and all.  Just need to know the upper limits of what it can use.  I have win 7, and can use Linux, so those options are open, also.
