Hi HP Community,

My HP mt20 (Celeron 3865U, shares the ProBook 440 G4 board) has a black screen after I selected "Apply Factory Reset" in the BIOS. The system is NOT dead; it passes POST but seems stuck at a hidden prompt.

Exact Symptoms:

  • Screen is completely black (no backlight, no external HDMI signal).

  • Exactly 4 seconds after power-on: it gives 1 single beep, and the HDD LED blinks rapidly.

  • Caps Lock toggles normally, Fn shortcuts work, and moving the touchpad wakes the keyboard backlight.

Steps I’ve Tried:

  • Hard CMOS reset (removed CMOS battery).

  • Booting without the HDD.

  • Blind BIOS recovery (Win + B) — ignores it, likely because the system boots past the recovery block.

  • Blind keystrokes (Esc, F1, F2, F9, F10, Enter) after the beep, guessing it's waiting for a confirmation.

My Questions:

  1. Does the 1 single beep indicate a hidden TPM physical presence or CMOS reset confirmation screen?

  2. If yes, what is the exact blind keystroke combination to bypass or accept it without seeing the screen?

  3. Did the factory reset cause an iGPU profile conflict (looking for a Core-i profile instead of Celeron), preventing display initialization?

Any advanced technical guidance would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
