My laptop is plugged in and won’t charge, it was at 11% when I noticed and now it’s dead and won’t turn on. i’ve tried the thing where you unplug the charger and hold the power button for 30 seconds and it won’t work. my laptop is HP Model 15 and i don’t know if i should pull it apart myself or find a professional. any advice on what to do? i have exams in a week so i need a quick fix preferably

Hi @israkhan1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 15 Notebook is plugged in but not charging, and now it won’t turn on at all. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the AC adapter and power outlet
Try a different wall outlet and confirm the charger’s LED (if present) turns on.
If the charger is loose, damaged, or not seated fully, the battery won’t charge.

Inspect the charging port and connector
Look for dust, wobbling, or bent pins in the laptop’s charging port.
A loose DC jack can prevent power from reaching the system.

Try a hard power reset again
Remove the charger → hold the power button for a full 20–30 seconds.
Then plug the charger directly into the laptop (no extension cords or power strips).

Check if the charging light is present
When you plug in the adapter, see if any LED near the charging port or keyboard lights up.
No lights at all usually means either the charger or the DC jack isn’t delivering power.

Test with another compatible HP charger (if possible)
A failing adapter can appear “plugged in” but deliver no power.
Borrowing a working 45W/65W HP charger can help rule this out quickly.

Remove external devices
Disconnect USB drives, mouse, keyboard, or SD cards.
Rarely, peripherals can block boot or drain minimal power from a failing system.

Try powering on without the battery (only for older removable-battery models)
If your HP 15 has a removable battery, take it out and power on using the charger only.
If it turns on, the battery is the issue.

Feel for heat or signs of life
After plugging in for a few minutes, check if the laptop gets slightly warm at the bottom.
No warmth at all suggests no power is reaching the motherboard.

Look for a stuck power state
Leave the laptop plugged in for at least 30 minutes and then try powering on again.
Deep battery drain can require a longer recovery period.

I hope this helps.
