Hello,

My sister has a HP model number dv6-1234se. When it is turned on it does not go past the welcome screen that says HP press escape...to start up. the warrenty has expired. I need to know if we should invest in a new laptop or if the damage is repairable.

Hoping you can help.

Hi,

If you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following.

With reference to the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot.  If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start.

The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 64 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Regards,

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Hi,

If you can't access the bios menu, try the following.

Shut down the notebook.  Remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the power button for a full minute.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.

Thank you for your assistance. I did exactly what you told me and her laptop is functional again. I have updated her software via HP Assistant and done a Health analysis. Is there anythng else i should do? Do you know what caused this problem?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Hi,

You're welcome and I'm glad it helped :generic:

There shouldn't be anything else you need to do - it could well have just been a bad connection and re-seating the Memory Modules has rectified this.

All the best,
