I bought the laptop for my wife last December.
Since then it has rebooted spontaneously every few days. Once it did it 3 times in one day. It can go for many days e.g, 2 weeks and not reboot.
I switched the auto reboot on error off so I could see a blue screen with diagnostic data. however it rebooted with no blue screen. I have run all the available diagnostic routines but it shows no errors.
We have also notice this additional issue since June
My wife saves a lot of bookmarks on the Chrome browser and also deletes old ones. After the reboot the deletions return and any new bookmarks are gone.

Hi @bigjujju,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Automatic reboots on a laptop can be caused by various issues, including hardware problems, software conflicts, or overheating. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your HP 17 laptop:
Check for Overheating:
- Ensure the laptop is well-ventilated and not overheating. Clean any dust from the vents and fans.
- Use a cooling pad to help keep the laptop cool.
Update Drivers and BIOS:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and BIOS for your specific model.
- Install any updates and restart your laptop.
Run Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a comprehensive test to check for any hardware issues.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Ensure your operating system and all software are up to date.
- Uninstall any recently installed programs that might be causing conflicts.
Scan for Malware:
- Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses.
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hi @bigjujju,
Please find the next set of steps below.
Check Event Viewer:
- Press Windows + X and select Event Viewer.
- Look for any critical errors or warnings under Windows Logs > System that might indicate what is causing the reboots.
Disable Automatic Restart:
- Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
- Go to the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
- Uncheck Automatically restart under System failure.
Check Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Ensure that your power settings are configured correctly and not set to shut down or restart the laptop automatically.
Perform a Clean Boot:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
- Disable all startup items, then restart your laptop.
Reset Windows:
- If the issue persists, consider resetting Windows to its original state. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, and select Reset this PC. Choose whether to keep your files or remove everything.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem that requires professional repair. Consider contacting HP phone support.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
