HP ProBook 640
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

We have a laptop that we purchased as a data collection agent for a large private school. We have had nothing but issues since we got it and it has been worked on by HP several times.

Well, now the hard drive crashed after the warranty expired. I installed a new hard drive and installed Windows 8 (which was

the only disk I had because Windows 7 was preloaded when we purchased it) and realized that a lot of the functions were

missing and I couldn’t get the drivers for the Windows 8 OS. I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 but received compatibility errors. Ultimately,

I wiped the hard drive, tried a system restore through the Bios menu but it is not working. The only option I have is to reload

Windows 7 but the only disk I have is a 32 bit Windows home edition and the laptop is 64 bit. Is there a way to retrieve the

Windows 7 OS that was preloaded without having to buy another disk?

Hi:

If you have a W7 Home product key, you can download the 64 bit Home Premium ISO file from the link below and make your own installation media.

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft utility that will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so that it is bootable.

Thank you so much. I will try this today.

You're very welcome.

I loaded the IOS onto the flash drive but was unable to boot from the flash drive in the pre-boot menu. Dont know if this is an issue with the Bios or not but I did find a work around.

I reinstalled Windows 8. I then ran the flash drive for Windows 7 within the OS but recieved an error halfway through stating that I could not install this version of Windows because it was not a valid copy. As a last resort, I ran the Windows 10 update tool again, ignoring the warning about the graphics card compatibility. Windows 10 is now loaded and working great with no errors. Even though I couldnt get it to work, I certainly appreciate your help anyway.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

You're probably better off on W10 anyway.
