On booting up, I got a hard drive error and told to run diagnostics. The SSD Wear Check passed but the Hard Drive/SSD SMART Check failed. I was told to contact HP Support with the 24 digit Failure ID (0URJ11-9P4AJA-GXGKHF-60E003). When I did this, via the HP Support Assistant, I got the response "Great". .And that was the end of the conversation.

More confusingly, when I ran the diagnostics again when logged in, all tests pass and the machine is running fine.

Google has panicked me into backing up all my document folders to OneDrive and I am in the process of uploading everything else to the HP Cloud Recovery Tool. But I'm not sure what the problem really is and would be grateful for any advice in terms of

- Do I need to replace the internal Hard Drive?

- If so, do I replace it with an HDD or SSD?

- And is this something I can do without the risk of blowing the whole thing up?

Normally, you have to replace the drive and reinstall the operating system.

 

Since your notebook is working fine right now and you backed up your files and made a USB recovery drive using the cloud recovery tool, there is no urgent requirement to replace the drive.

 

However, the drive could completely fail at any time, so keep your personal files backed up frequently if you add new files or modify existing documents and whatnot.
